TORONTO STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2007 DATES Festival celebrates filmmaking achievements of high school students TORONTO, ON --- November 1, 2006 --- Today organizers announced that the second annual TORONTO STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL (TSFF) will be held on March 30 and 31, 2007. This festival is unique in its focus on the media arts accomplishments of secondary school students and is open to all high school students who have written, directed, edited or produced a short film (10 minutes or less) during their high school years. These films may have been created as part of a media arts class, film club, or independently. All films created during the high school years are eligible, even if the participants have since graduated; this will allow students and teachers to submit works completed towards the end of the prior school year. There is no charge to submit a film; full details are available at HYPERLINK "http://www.tsff.ca" www.tsff.ca TSFF premiered in Spring, 2006, playing to sell-out crowds and gaining widespread support from the educational community. Some of Canada’s leading arts organizations provided judges or prizes, including CitizenShift/National Film Board, CTV, YTV/Corus Entertainment, the Worldwide Short Film festival (Canadian Film Centre), Partners’ Film Company, Epitome Pictures, and Cinematique/Toronto International Film Festival. Based on its sell-outs in 2006, the 2007 TSFF will again be over two nights, Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31. The first night will feature a NOMINEE SHOWCASE of the top 25 short films submitted, and the awards will be presented on the second night. Both nights will also feature special film screenings of particular interest to youth; program details are still pending, and the web site will be updated as film screenings are confirmed. Crescent School has again donated its state-of-the-art theatre and atrium areas in the Centre for Creative Learning, conveniently located on Bayview Ave. in Toronto. Inspired by former Crescent media arts students under the direction of Arts Head, Jamie MacRae, the TORONTO STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL (TSFF) provides young filmmakers a unique opportunity to screen their work in front of live audiences and interact with industry professionals. “This festival gives budding filmmakers a real voice and a chance to tell their stories,” explained Mr. MacRae. “Our goal is to recognize this tremendous creative energy and provide a forum to showcase their talents.” Animation, drama, documentary, comedy and the popular “mockumentary” genres are all welcome. Films will be professionally judged, with the top 25 chosen recognized with “TSFF Nominee Certificates.” Specially-crafted TSFF acrylic awards and prizes will be awarded to the top six winners for achievement in: overall film production (1st, 2nd and 3rd place), editing, direction and screenplay on Saturday night. As in 2006, the judging panel will consist of professionals from the industry. In 2006, the top two winners received opportunities to work on a project directly with professionals at CTV and Corus Entertainment, and other prizes included cash, editing software and passes to a film industry symposium. TSFF tickets go on sale in December, 2006. Submissions are invited effective immediately. Deadline: July 31st
Student Films: *Filmmakers must be between the ages of 13-24 *Must follow the general criteria of the John Paul II International Film Festival™ (Please check website for official rules) The John Paul II International Film Festival ™ is modeled after the views and ideals of the late pope, whom we affectionately refer to as JP2. The festival will feature films that celebrate life by acknowledging the strengths, struggles, and triumphs we experience when striving to give meaning to our existence. The filmmakers showcased in our festival are filmmakers that have slipped under the radar, filmmakers who are using their talent to give back to the Ultimate Creator. We want to foster and encourage art that brings the Word of God to life. Our festival will give exposure to talented filmmakers from all faiths, united to give the festival’s audience an opportunity to experience the filmmakers’ ultimate expression of their religious beliefs; therefore becoming a part of JP 2’s call for a new evangelization. The festival will be an annual event where families, couples, singles, people of all ages and cultures can experience the power of God through film, music, and communion. The weekend film festival will showcase the latest in faith-based films, and other artistic expressions that support the values and virtues that made JP2 so loved in the world by Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

"Intervideo Talent Award"
Wiesbaden Germany
15.11.2009
Deadline: 31.08.2009
Tomorrow, we will see Realities, Visions, Utopias Crisis is the word of the present day. We talk about financial crisis, about climate change, about the threatening collapse of complex systems. Today, no-one can realistically estimate the driving force of piled-up energies. That goes for economic systems in the same way as for climate models, populations and social models. It has taken us less than 200 years to burn most of the world’s oil reserves and pollute the atmosphere in doing so. The influences of human actions accumulate in a historically unique way. The world population is growing so strongly that it can no longer be fed without energy-intensive food manufacturing. Poverty, famines, social rejections threaten. Yet, there have always been apocalyptic predictions, just like unexpected ways out. But what then? What will the world look like after it has all been overcome? Tomorrow we will see, the day after tomorrow, beyond uncertainty, inevitable processes, the world will look different. Visions, utopias, projections show how life can look after everything has been overcome. Contemplations, projections from the present to the future. What seems realistic, what would be desirable? Living, cohabiting, surviving under conditions that we can barely forecast today. Or a world without man (maybe he was just an evolutionary slip-up?). Films can be submitted in three categories: 1. Documentary style. The compilations of current expert interviews is not what is meant (there are enough of them), but the formal rendition with elements of the documentary film: Interview, watching real scenes, commentary. As we are looking far into the future, a mixture of fiction and non-fiction is allowed. Yet, this is not a must. Observations of the present can throw light on the life of tomorrow. In the same way, fictitious scenes of the future can imply what preceded. Therefore, reports about the present day are just as possible as fictitious documentaries, reports, interviews “afterwards”. 2. Fiction / short film. The contents and storyline can also be freely designed here. The story can take place in the present, in the past or in the future. It is important that there is a recognizable dramaturgy, a storyline that is carried by dialogues or drama. The number of roles, the way the camera works, music and production design can be freely selected. 3. Free choice / animations / graphics: We are looking for ways of free artistic dealing with realities, visions, utopias. Collages, musical films, animations or combinations are imaginable. There are no limits to form and aesthetics. It is important that the theme remains coherent. That means no art as an end in itself but a recognizable approach to the theme of the competition. The competition is open for students, apprentices and graduates from sectors like, e.g. TV, film and media production, media design, animation and multimedia as well as media technology may participate. The competition is also aimed at young professionals and job starters with work experience of up to 2 years.

Toronto Student Film FEstival
Toronto Ontario
Saturday April 24, 2010
Deadline: March 22, 2010 for all submiss
We are writing to give you the details for the 5th annual 2010 Toronto Student Film Festival, to be held on one night only ---- Saturday, April 24.This student-inspired festival, again hosted by Crescent School, provides a venue for young filmmakers to tell their stories and have their voices heard --- on a wide range of topics and issues important to them. Students may submit completed curriculum-based projects on an individual or group basis, and personal media works are also encouraged. Since its inception in 2006, the TSFF has earned a reputation as one of North America’s top youth film festivals, and it has gained the support of the Canadian Film Center, the National Film Board, CTV, the City of Toronto Film Office, and many other leaders in the arts and film industry. Our judging panel consists of professionals from many of these organizations, as well as established Canadian filmmakers. The Toronto Student Film Festival is all about youth achievement in media arts, providing a simple and FREE way for youth under age 21 to show their work and have it evaluated. Over the past four festivals, we have received hundreds of submissions from youth around the world, and we are increasingly linking the TSFF to other similar youth film festivals. By submitting their films, your students will have a unique opportunity to compete with other youth on an international basis. It is easy to enter and there is absolutely no charge. Short films of 1-6 minutes are encouraged and all films must be 6 minutes or less. It is very likely that your students who are taking/have taken a film or multi media course already have films which could be submitted. The 2010 TSFF submission deadline is March 22. Full details about the festival and submission forms are available at the festival web site: www.tsff.com. Past winners have received opportunities to work on “internship” projects directly with professionals at CTV and Corus Entertainment, with other prizes including cash, tuition to a week long filmmaking workshop at the New York Film Academy, film editing software, and passes to industry symposiums. In addition, those films with a message of “social significance” have been featured on Canada’s own on-line media for social change--- CitizenShift at www.citizen.nfb.ca . For 2010, the top 25 films will again be featured in the TSFF NOMINEE SHOWCASE, and these winners will all receive personalized certificates of recognition. Specially-crafted TSFF acrylic awards (our version of the Oscar) will be awarded to the winners for achievement in: overall film excellence (1st, 2nd and 3rd place), editing, direction, screenplay, best documentary, “CitizenShift Film with Impact,” and the People’s Choice Award, chosen by the audience. Note: Prize categories on website for the latest additions. Please encourage your students or teachers to submit work by the festival deadline of March 22, 2010.

2.Intervideo Talend Award
Wiesbaden Germany
12.11.2011
Deadline: 31.08.2011
FINAL CALL for entries -31.08.2011- Sustainability Films Wanted! The Intervideo Talent Award “Morgen sehen wir weiter”(“Tomorrow we will see”) starts second round. For the second time since its successful debut in 2009, Intervideo Filmproduktion GmbH is announcing its Intervideo Talent Award which started March 1, 2011. Giving new young media talent a boost worked so well in its first run that Intervideo itself received a prize for the idea: the “German Culture Promotion Prize” (Deutscher Kulturförderpreis). Students or trainees and those just starting on a media career who wish to address the competition theme in film are eligible to take part. Participants may not be older than 30 when submitting their entry. Under the heading of “THE FUTURE AS A BRAND – Sustainability as a value and product,” this year’s competition is about the almost inflationary use of the term “sustainability.” Is the “produce, consume, recycle” blueprint a workable or illusory model for modern industrialized society? Doesn’t sustainability in the strictest sense turn our entire economic system and how we co-exist on its head? Or does the term takes its place in the long series of communication catastrophes and cureall mantras in the advertising industry? Is sustainability possibly only a decoy designed to trigger people to consume and actually stand in the way of sustainability? In our Web-savvy age, words decay rapidly. How sustainable will the expression sustainability be? We are interested in films which address the topic of sustainability dispassionately, critically and/or artistically. Films which look at the issue from a wide range of perspectives investigate it or make it intelligible in emotional terms. The films themselves may somehow even be sustainable, or serve as models of sustainability. This year, the Intervideo Talent Award will be awarded in four film categories – “Documentaries,” “Fiction/Short films,” “Animations” and “Freestyle.” This year too, after the entry period closes, an independent jury will select the winning entries. Cash awards amounting to a total of €2,000 are on offer to the winners, as well as various non-cash prizes. The prizes will be presented at the film festival “exground” in Wiesbaden in November. Deadline for submission of entries is August 31, 2011. Further information and all documentation concerning the competition is available at: http://www.intervideo-nachwuchspreis.de http://www.intervideo-filmproduktion.de We look forward to receiving your entries and films! CWA Preferred Filmmaker Directory
Los Angeles California
April 25, 2011
Deadline: May 15, 2011
This year CWA is introducing a special project with university filmmakers and CWA writers in mind, the CWA Preferred Filmmaker Directory. The CWA Preferred Filmmaker Directory pairs the nation’s up-and-coming student filmmakers with winning screenwriters from CWA's annual competition for the sole purpose of encouraging collaboration that leads to getting top quality projects produced. CWA selects the top screenwriters from our annual competition, however, all participating student directors selected to be in the Directory will be included at no charge. This opportunity is ideal not only for CWA writers looking to see their scripts produced, but student directors in need of first-rate material. Additionally, the Directory will be later promoted to several other companies we work with who are always on the lookout for new talent (LionsGate/Mandate, Icon Entertainment, Greenestreet, Inferno Entertainment, etc.). How to apply:  University filmmakers should send a brief letter of interest, bio or resume, and a link where we can view a sample of their work. Please submit to: Heather Waters, CWA, Co-founder heather@creativeworldawards.com.  Once we've screened all the applicants, the Top 100 applicants will be invited to join the Directory along with the Top 100 winning screenwriters selected from our Creative World Short Film Awards in August 2011. University filmmakers and CWA writers will also receive the CWA Preferred Filmmaker Directory at no charge once the contest results are announced in December 2011. Deadline:  All application materials must be received by May 15th. Purpose:  To foster collaboration among the nation's most promising screenwriters and student filmmakers. Attached is a flier with more details.  Shoot me an email (corbin@creativeworldawards.com) if you have any further questions.  We've worked with some of the top university film programs in the country, but we're quite enthused to hear from all passionate film students with a desire to share their creative voice.  Best regards, Corbin Craft Contest Coordinator Creative World Awards

Frames Film Festival
Nerul, Navi Mumbai Maharashtra
19th - 21st January 2012
Deadline: 9th january 2012
All these years, Frames has been a BMM-centric event with only minority participation by others. This year, that changes. The non-BMM category has seen some extraordinary entries which compel Frames to open competition to all. Amateur filmmakers don’t have the best resources. But with the little that they have, Frames has seen their talent really shine. We hope to continue this legacy of brilliance this year. And of course, the theme! 2012 is the year several philosophers and prophets and even scientists have predicted a probable armageddon/end-of-the-world/apocalypse – call it what you like. Your days on this planet are numbered. The world as you know it will change forever.
